Veryant Shows How to Bring COBOL to the Cloud
On-Demand COBOL Application Deployment and Flexible SQL Access to ISAM Files Add Unprecedented Portability to COBOL Assets
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Veryant, the COBOL and Java technology innovator, will host a Webinar Wednesday, September 30 at 12 noon EDT to demonstrate how organizations with valuable COBOL assets can leverage existing skills and resources to deploy fully-interactive Web 2.0 applications and add a flexible relational database engine to ISAM files without changing current program code or data.
The Webinar will present important information for companies interested in leveraging COBOL applications and data in Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud computing, and other new distribution models.
John Jackson, president of Softwrx, will share his experiences with Veryant’s isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (APS) and his company’s Web enablement plans. Softwrx is a Nashville-based provider of financial accounting software specific to enterprise POS Systems and wholesale distribution that moved to isCOBOL APS from ACUCOBOL-GT because of improved performance, enhanced graphical user interface (GUI) capabilities, universal thin client portability, and responsive support. isCOBOL APS provides a complete environment to develop, deploy, and modernize COBOL applications.
The 45-minute Webinar will include a demonstration of isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0, a new product in the latest isCOBOL APS release that enables the deployment of universal, zero client rich Internet applications (RIA) using standard COBOL screen sections and existing program procedure division and flow.
Webinar attendees will learn how to:
- Implement a full-fledged RDBMS that runs on top of ISAM files with isCOBOL SQL Server;
- Write stored procedures accessing COBOL ISAM files;
- Integrate COBOL ISAM files with new applications;
- Leverage an Eclipse-based graphical user interface (GUI) environment.
Recent enhancements to isCOBOL APS, including new isCOBOL IDE features and support for dumb terminals and terminal emulators to facilitate the modernization of character-based legacy applications, will also be discussed.
